Plant Eater, Yellow

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Now since I am working on a cartoon, rather than real life, I have to decide on a colour for the characters…. so, how about yellow for the plant eater?

Predator with Teeth

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Ok,

The holiday is over, so I’m back on task now.

Looking at my predator, I decided that he really was missing an important feature, teeth!

I’ve gone and added some now. And yes, if you look, they are all actually the same tooth, just placed in different locations and adjusted in size a little. If I need to custom design each tooth, I will, but I don’t think that will be necessary at the stage for a carton.

Just one quick note; The image was supposed to have five teeth on each side of the lower jaw, and four on each side of the upper Jaw, but for some reason a few of the teeth didn’t come across from zbrush to maya when I used the goZ function… will have to either look into that, or do it manaually.

Tired

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Not sure why, but I’m really tired tonight, so I think I will crash early.

Just thought I would post a quick pic of what my chick’s head looked like last time I rendered it.

Kind of like it, but when I first started working on it, I was thinking a light covering of fur/feathers/down, so not sure where I will take it from here.

Either way, here’s the pic, and I’m off to bed.

Honey Bee

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Once again I put a few hours in, and this time I was working on a quick model for a small flying creature.

This creature is going to be eaten, then spat out by our main character, Rex.

I decided this morning to base it on a honey bee, so did a quick search on Google for a few pictures for reference, and then whipped up this model.

Once again it is a draft model, so I have all the creatures I need to start working on a previz soon.

Seemed to come out how I was hoping. I really have to admit that reference pictures really help, as I have no idea what this would have looked like if I had tried to model it out of my head.

It will look a bit better closer to final when it has some textures, the classic yellow/black stripes, and maybe even some hair if I decide to give it a close up shot in the animation.

Quick models

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Did a few hours today.

I am wanting to get some base models out, so I can do a little previz to give me an idea of how the project will unfold. So I need to make a few more of the models.

Today I made a quick Lizard, and a quick Predator.

Below is what I have;

Chicks under development

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Well, I have a few models I need to create for my little short, so I decided that I may as well put an hour or so into it this afternoon.

Well, I wasn’t as good as I was hoping, and didn’t quite make the one hour mark, hopefully I will be better next session.

Either way I thought I would start working on the base model of the little chicks which are defending their nest and fighting Rex.

Below is what I have made sofar;

(wip) Chick

The properties I am trying to achieve with this model are;
– large beak to use for a range of expression
– noticeable eyebrows, also for expression
– torso to have classic frozen chicken shape, but not to noticeable

When the model is finished, it will probably have a light covering of fur, and some bald (probably pinkish) spots.

At present it has arm ‘polls’ sticking out of the torso, as I need to decide a little latter what the arms/wings are going to look like, so I just put them in there for a place holder, and to give me some polys to work on when I decide what I want them to look like.

While it isn’t fantastic, I am starting to be able to get from my mind onto the computer the basic model shape a little quicker now. I guess practice really does help πŸ™‚

Plant Eater under development

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

I haven’t done too much since my last post.

A friend from Oz has been visiting, so that has been slightly distracting.

I have done a little more on my plant eater though, and I remembered to bring a copy to this computer this time.

As you can tell, it is a lot better shape than last time I posted a draft, as I have picked up a few tricks since that attempt.

Working on a Plant Eater

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Well, I’m on the last week of my holiday, but I decided that maybe I should start getting back into modelling. I have just started this a few minutes ago, but since I rendered a quick shot to see what it was going like, I thought I may as well post it here just to confirm that I am still alive.

I am working on making some sort of Plant eating dinosaur for my project. This is really at a very early stage, but even now it is probably enough for you to determine the basic shape I am kind of aiming for.

Very early stage of creating a Plant Eater for my animation

Hopefully it will look a lot better afer some more work πŸ™‚

Rex has a frill

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Ok, made a little progress on Rex my Triceratops today.

I have added the ‘frill’ part around his neck, and I have carved in some basic eye shape.

His poly-count has risen to a little over 8k now.

I believe the next step is to do some retopologizing, though I have no idea how to do that yet.

I may get around to looking at it tomorrow, but I believe somebody is doing a movie review tomorrow, so maybe I’ll need to look into it next week instead.

I’ll post below the lastest picture or Rex just for reference.

I think Zbrush is pretty cool, but its a lot to learn.

Rex now has eyes and a frill
